Rules/FAQ

RULES. DON'T BE A DICK. This is a given. Starting drama with other players will result in your expulsion from the game, no ifs, ands, or buts. If you don't like a player, don't play with them. If you are being harassed, let the mod know and they'll help mediate or handle it, as needed. This is a fun hobby and it's not a game setting nor are casts or characters going to be capped (unless super necessary; look, we can't have ten Tony Starks running around, four or five maybe, but let's not get crazy), so there should be zero reason for you get bitchy with other players. The mod is entirely too old for this shit and isn't going to tolerate it. Her patience for bullshit is reserved for paying jobs. ;) Also, while we're an open sandbox, we will not be advertising. If we show up on wankgate or rpanons, we become invite only and the whole game gets locked down; anyone the mod did not personally invite prior to creating the sandbox will be booted and have to reapply on a case by case basis. This should be a fun, safe space. Once it stops being one, it ceases to be open. CHARACTERS YOU CAN PLAY. Whoever you want. No, seriously. Whoever you want. Canon characters, original characters, AU characters, CRAU characters, villains, heroes, civilians, monsters, future kids, fictionalized real people (like Hamilton characters or James Van Der Beek in Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23) tentacle monsters, idgaf. Just no real people, that's all. Any age, shape, size; do it up. Yes, that means you can play a five year old if you really want to, but please don't assume that someone will "adopt" your character. That's up to the other players and their characters. If you play someone under the age of 18, expect for them to go it alone and potentially be pleasantly surprised, how's that? In other words, your best bet is to feel out other players and see if anyone might want to take responsibility for your kid if you don't want your five year old wandering around a city all alone. ACTIVITY. Once in a while there will be a check in. It won't necessarily be monthly, or really on any set schedule. Sporadically, the mod will do the thing to clean house. She will mention it exactly once in a private plurk to players, once in the group chat on Discord, and once on the ooc community, so if you don't pay attention to Plurk or Discord, then you're going to want to track the ooc community because she's not going to do warnings and she's not going to nudge people. If you don't check in within the given timeframe (usually one week), your characters will be removed. If this was a mistake, all you have to do is contact the mod and she'll fix it. FOURTHWALLING/CANON PUNCTURING. Please ask the player ahead of time, but players...your character is now in a modern world with Google and Youtube and Netflix, etc. The likelihood that no one knows who they are is really, really low. If you don't like fourthwalling, this might not be a good fit for you. CHANGE IS A THING. These rules are subject to change. Any new rules or edits to existing ones will be announced once in the OOC community, once in a private plurk to players, and once in the Discord group chat. That's it. If you miss it, not the mod's problem. This probably won't happen often, if at all. F.A.Q. CAN I INVITE MY FRIENDS? Go for it, if you're confident they're not going to cause problems. It's fine if some of the players don't get along, they just need to be adults about it, seeing as how we are all...you know...adults. Drama gets you the boot and if you invite someone that starts drama, it makes you look bad, so just be mindful. Please do not invite total strangers. If you've been playing in memes with someone but you don't know them well, that's one thing, but please don't toss us up on rpanons or enablemeplz in the spaces where you can look for partners. Please at least know the person a little before you ask them to join us. I WANT TO PLAY A VILLAIN, NOW WHAT? First of all, good for you, that's awesome! Villians are great! Second of all, your villain, regardless of their canonical powers/abilities/skills, is not going to be invincible forever. Once they do a villainous act, unless otherwise cleared by the mod for a player plot, they will be removed from the game in 30 days by The Powers That Be. Villainous acts aren't small scale, in this instance. Robbing a bank isn't going to get the character the boot, but murdering another character will. AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT...LET'S TALK IC/OOC BLUR/INFOMODDING/GODMODDING Don't do this. It's obnoxious and shitty and it'll get you kicked out. Just because you know something doesn't mean your character does. Don't be the guy who ruins a player's experience bringing in a villain because your character suddenly suspects something for no damn reason. That's lame. Seriously, don't be that guy. In this vein, don't jump on pop culture for a reason your character would know this unless your character would actually watch that show/has seen that movie/totally read that book/whatever. It really ruins people's fun. And definitely do not do this without giving the player a heads up first. Please don't go crazy with the cockblocking of a villainous character. Your character is allowed to be cautious and it's fine if they want to warn their close friends, but can we not with the giant shout out posts filtered to everyone BUT the villain to say "yo, this dude sucks, don't talk to him"? It makes playing a villain not even worth it. All that said, if you're playing a bad guy and you don't want negative cr...don't...play a bad guy? You're going to wind up with some negative cr and if that hurts your fee fees, pick another character, because the villain isn't going to be a good fit. SPEAKING OF BAD GUYS AND DEATH... Please put up trigger warnings and put things behind cuts if you think that's necessary. If your character is killed in a mod or player plot or by a villain, you can respawn them a week after their death. You can do this three times. Premise

PREMISE. Welcome to the City of Epochal. Your character will wake up here after falling asleep where they started (or dying, we suppose; they're welcome to come back from the dead). When they wake up, it'll be on a bed in their new apartment, with a note saying the following: Welcome to Epochal, new friend. We're so sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do. City Council and the Mayor have been working tirelessly for decades and still have not found a solution to the seemingly random comings and goings of people to our town. As an apology, please accept your new Epocredit card. Each month, you will receive a stipend of $1000 from our local government, funded in part by donations of people just like you. This is your new apartment. Feel free to keep it or abandon it. Your stipend will continue even if you find employment, but if you do find employment, please consider donating to the cause for new folks just like you. If you have any questions...we're sorry we probably don't know how to answer most of them, but feel free to visit City Hall and we'll do our best. Thank you and please enjoy your stay. Beside the note will be the character's Epocredit card with their name on it as well as a key to their apartment, which by the way, will look exactly the way they want it to look. If your character wants a hotel room, then their apartment will look just like a hotel room. If they want a luxury loft, so be it. Characters who don't already have mobile devices will be gifted with their choice of modern smartphone with or without a smartwatch to go with it. Anyone gifted with these devices will also receive user manuals and the first time they turn on their device or their television, a video tutorial will pop up wherein the City Mayor explains in great detail how to work the device. They're welcome to vacate for their own housing at any time, and characters might even find some familiar housing options just popping up in the city over time, you never know! Epochal is a city like any other modern city in the players' universe. It has Wi-Fi and Youtube and dog parks and bike trails Netflix and food and porn stores and whatever the hell else you could find in a big city. epochal is a slice of life crack game which will have adult themes from time to time. Please keep this in mind and proceed or retreat accordingly.
